If Ed Wood lived in San Francisco in 2008–a golden age of independent digital filmmaking and experimental outsider performance–he would have felt right at home. Brutally and universally panned by the film industry in his time, and posthumously relegated to cult kitsch status, Wood was, in the end, a man who truly loved films and worked tirelessly (and thriftily) to realize his grand visions. This is the point of view from which Black Stone Ensemble dives into WOOD! Into the Mind of Edward D. Wood, Jr, Worst Director of All Time!

WOOD! is part camp satire, part cabaret, and part site-specific performance installation. Using movement, dance, musical theatre, video, and sound, WOOD! probes, twists and burlesques the obsessions of the 1950s cult filmmaker, director of Plan 9 From Outer Space and Glen or Glenda, and acknowledged transvestite.
